building characterAdding an inexpensive, repeating detail can dramatically redefine an atmosphere. A young family purchased this 1930s Cape Cod house with immediate plans to renovate. Our challenge was to create an open floor plan and provide an interior character to match the exterior. The first floor also needed to be re-organized to create a central family room in place of an oversized dining room. To achieve a distinctive character and charm, we introduced a series of archways. The archways provide a way to conceal utilitarian spaces and open up the floor plan. We also relocated the dining room and moved a wall to create a family room. |
