OUR WORK

Classic Kitchen Remodel in Plymouth, Michigan

A dark, cramped kitchen became a bright, open hub where the whole family gathers.

THE STORY

What the homeowners wanted, and what we found.

WHAT THEY WANTED

This fun young family in Plymouth has two kids, and their kitchen is where everyone ends up. They wanted it updated to work better for daily life. But it was dark, closed off from the dining room and breakfast area and too small for the crowd around the coffee pot.

WHAT WE FOUND

The kitchen felt dark and closed off from the dining room and breakfast area. A peninsula of upper cabinets cut through the middle of the room. When the family entertained, the kitchen was too small for everyone who gathered there.

HOW WE DESIGNED IT

We opened the wall between the kitchen and dining room and removed the upper cabinets that split the room.

THE INSPIRATION

A fun young family whose kitchen is where everyone ends up. The design stays classic and traditional, with room for the crowd that always gathers around the coffee pot.

THE PLAN

We opened the wall between the kitchen and dining room for a wider connection. The upper-cabinet peninsula through the middle of the kitchen came out. A new peninsula counter extends the kitchen into the old eat-in area. Wider walkways, a better working triangle and new lighting finish the plan.

THE OUTCOME

How it turned out

The family starts the day in a bright, open kitchen with room for everyone. Kids and guests gather at the peninsula while the coffee brews. The kitchen flows into the dining room, so no one feels left out.

WHAT MAKES IT WORK

Three details that carry the design.

FEATURE 01

Removing the peninsula of upper cabinets opened up the middle of the kitchen. The room feels bigger, and sightlines run clear across it.

FEATURE 02

The family saw the design in 3D before making final decisions. The rendering showed how people would move through the new kitchen, so they could choose with confidence.

FEATURE 03

A new peninsula counter stretches the kitchen into the old eat-in area. It adds counter space and a natural spot for the family to gather.
