OUR WORK
Whole-Home Remodel in Ann Arbor Hills, Ann Arbor
A crowded, disconnected home became a calm, open place for a busy family of boys.
THE STORY
What the homeowners wanted, and what we found.
WHAT THEY WANTED
With three growing boys, busy routines and a love of hosting, this family had outgrown their home's layout. They wanted an open kitchen for entertaining, a true mudroom, a more private primary suite and fewer outside doors for peace of mind. Instead, the kitchen was too small, there was no landing zone from the garage and the primary bath doubled as the guest bath.
WHAT WE FOUND
The kitchen was too small to cook or entertain in, and the dining room felt cut off. There was no landing zone from the garage. The primary bedroom opened too close to the kitchen, its bathroom doubled as the guest bath and several outside doors made the family uneasy. Finishes didn't match, and the curb appeal was weak.
HOW WE DESIGNED IT
We made a larger kitchen the center of the home, with easy flow to dining, living and the outdoors.
THE INSPIRATION
Calm, in a house full of boys. The family wanted lighter finishes, more natural light and one cohesive look inside and out. Modern design with a natural, organic warmth ties it all together.
THE PLAN
We enlarged the kitchen and placed it at the center of the home, connected to dining, living and outdoor space. A new mudroom adds storage and order. The primary suite was reworked for privacy, and a new powder room gives guests their own bath.
THE OUTCOME
How it turned out
The boys drop shoes, backpacks and sports gear in the mudroom instead of everywhere else. Everyday meals and parties happen around a bigger island that keeps everyone connected. The parents have a private suite, guests have their own powder room and the whole house feels calmer.

WHAT MAKES IT WORK
Three details that carry the design.

FEATURE 01
The larger kitchen handles everyday meals, family cooking and entertaining. A big island gives room for prep, seating and conversation, with open views to the living and dining areas.

FEATURE 02
The new mudroom gives the family a place for shoes, coats, backpacks and sports gear. Built-in storage and better flow cut down on daily clutter and make coming home calmer.

FEATURE 03
New windows and doors bring in light while keeping privacy where the family needs it. New siding, windows and front entry details give the home a cleaner look from the street.
