OUR WORK

Modern Kitchen Remodel in Ann Arbor

A scattered kitchen with a fridge in the way became a calm, open hub without moving a single wall.

THE STORY

What the homeowners wanted, and what we found.

WHAT THEY WANTED

A family of five, six counting the dog, uses the kitchen as the hub of the home. They wanted it to feel more open, work better and connect to the rest of the house, without changing the structure. Instead, counters and appliances were scattered, and the open fridge door blocked the path to the dining room.

WHAT WE FOUND

Counters were split into zones at different heights, which made the room feel smaller. The refrigerator sat by the entry, so its open door blocked the path to the dining room. Finishes, appliances and cabinets were all ready for an update.

HOW WE DESIGNED IT

We replaced the split, uneven counters with one continuous counter line, which opened the room without removing any walls.

THE INSPIRATION

Open and calm, without moving a wall. The family wanted a kitchen that felt connected and easy to live in. Modern lines with a classic touch, tall pantry cabinets, warm-toned counters and gold pulls tie the look together.

THE PLAN

We removed the separate counters at different heights and added one long, single-level counter line. Appliances moved so no pathway is blocked. At the end opposite the dining room, tall custom cabinets add storage and height. The kitchen feels much larger in the same footprint.

THE OUTCOME

How it turned out

The family moves through the kitchen without running into an open fridge door. Conversation flows across the low counters, and drinks are within easy reach. The kitchen feels larger and calmer, even with five people and a dog.

WHAT MAKES IT WORK

Three details that carry the design.

FEATURE 01

We pulled out the separate coffee-nook cabinets and installed tall pantry cabinets that draw the eye up. They add a lot of storage in one tidy spot, and gold pulls add a touch of polish.

FEATURE 02

A connected line of low cabinets defines the kitchen and creates one shared counter. Warm counters and matching gold pulls tie the two cabinet styles together.

FEATURE 03

The low cabinets let people talk across the counters, opening the space without removing a wall. A beverage fridge at the end keeps drinks handy, so guests can help themselves while they chat.
